New Senior Captains for 2023 Announced

Senior coach Luke Hegarty has announced his captains for the upcoming season. Hegs says “They all lead in a different way, they can share the load and bring the group together as one”

Ben Coffey, the reigning best and fairest winner, described the appointment: “I’m both honoured and proud to captain such a great group of blokes, the vibe is as positive as I can recall” When asked what the feeling is like he added; “having Hegs and Jenno on board it almost feels like a fresh start, everyone is excited to have a good preseason and give it a good crack next year.

Nick Wozniak, last year’s Vice Captain, states he is “Excited and stoked to be forming the exciting new direction the club is heading in”. “What excites me is the opportunity to continue building the foundations for success and continuing to earn respect as that team that cracks in no matter the result” When asked what is driving him in his footy career, he replied “-the boys – taking the field week in week out with your mates knowing that they all will crack in and have your back. There is nothing better”

Kyle Stamers, coming off his best year, could best be described as bleeding red, white and black. “It is an absolute honour and something I aimed for, for a very long time. To be able to do it with Coff and Woz, to say I’m pumped is an understatement” Stamers returned last year after a few seasons at Keysborough, on his time there Stamers says “It was good to get away for a couple of seasons, I learnt a lot, but Cowwarr will always be home to me” When asked what he is looking forward to most in 2023 – “Mate, the core group have stuck it out through the tough times, I’m looking forward to some reward for effort, and reward for sticking fat’

2022 Captain Braden Johnson who bravely led from the front while battling injuries, has stepped down to concentrate on his footy and getting his body right in 2023. The club thanks Braden for his time as captain and looks forward to him getting back to his best.
